A lot of people struggle to lose weight. Chances are that you are among those people who tried almost all the tips they read on the Internet and paid thousands of dollars on weight loss machines and fad diets, but still failed. If this is the case then it’s time to reevaluate what you are doing. As you read the weight loss articles and splurged thousands on machines, did you really believe that they can help you?
Psychologists explained that people who have faith in themselves have more chances to lose weight when adhering to a certain weight loss program, than people who are skeptical if they can really shed off some pounds (following the same program). This is based on the principle that positive thinking increases your success rate in losing weight as well as your chances to succeed in other aspects of your life as well.
Furthermore according to a Behaviorist at Stanford University, when people visualize the things that they want to accomplish, they work harder for them, and thus they are able to reach their goal. Again, this proves that optimism conjures a more positive view of oneself thus motivates a person to live a healthier lifestyle.
If you are a reality TV fan, I’m sure you know Ruby Gettinger from Savannah, Georgia. She is the star of Style Network’s reality show “Ruby”. The show is all about her weight loss journey. She weighed 700 pounds and gradually managed to decrease that to a little over 300 pound now. The story had inspired millions of viewers (including me) world-wide on how she kept a positive outlook in life and how optimistic she was on her journey to lose weight despite the fact that she lived as an obese all her life.
I may not weigh as much as Ruby Gettinger, but I know I need to shed some pounds if I want to witness my daughter’s wedding and experience playing with my grandchildren. It is not the easiest thing to do and I need to remind myself everyday that “I can” and “I will do” this. There are indeed a lot of times that I want to give up, but pulling the optimism back in my mind greatly motivates me to continue with the weight loss program. Guess what, I did lost 4 pounds in a month; I know it’s not that much, but these little steps could go a long way.
According to weight loss experts, the first step in losing weight is to get the right motivation. After that, all you need is commitment and determination to surpass the challenge of changing your unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle. Since these are major life changes, many people fail because they are consumed by negativism. Words like “It’s impossible!”, “It’s hard!”, and “I can’t do it!” are words that are uttered by losers. So, instead of being pessimistic, think positively and imagine yourself how you would look like and how it will change your life if you reach your goal.
The weight loss battle is not easy but it is not impossible to win. You just need to gear up with a strong shield of optimism to block all those negative vibes away. If Ruby can do it, why can’t you?
