It’s a well known fact that everybody needs some chill out time sometimes. So how about you go and make yourself a cup of hot chocolate, put your feet up, lay back in your reclining sofa and learn how to take some time off.
- Give yourself some space. It’s not abnormal to get home from a busy day of work and socialising wanting to scream “I hate people.” I know I do sometimes! The best way to chill out and take some time out is to turn your mobile off, close down your laptop, unplug your landline and just refuse any contact from the outside world. Truly enjoy some “me-time”. It’s alright; the world can survive without you for an hour or so!
- Go to bed before you have to. Allow yourself half an hour of just lying in bed and you’ll probably realise that you’re a lot more tired than you thought you were. Spend that time allowing your mind to take over and worry about the things that need worrying about then let yourself switch off and get a decent night’s sleep.
- Have a nice hot bath. I’m not insisting you scald yourselves but nice and hot and steamy then I have one simple instruction: soak. Until all of the bubbles are gone. Until your fingers are wrinkly. And then soak some more. The steam will clear your sinuses making you feel a lot healthier and your skin will be rehydrated. Plus, it’s cheaper than going to the spa!
- Organisation can help give you some down time. Allow yourself at least an hour a day (sleeping does not count!) to be alone and to be calm.
- Treat yourself occasionally. Spend a little money on yourself, don’t break the bank or anything but maybe a chocolate bar or a new film just to make yourself feel a little happier.
Chilling out seems like a lost art now more than ever, especially since you can easily check your work emails in the bath on your BlackBerry. But in this incredibly fast-paced world, it’s so important to take a breather from time to time before diving headlong back into it.
